Modern Day Anasheed.

Q; What about adopting 'Nasheed Singing' as a profession? I mean is it allowed to listen to the professional Nasheed Singers who are very common these day?

A; All-Praise is due to Allah,
Yes with out a doubt it is permissible to listen to modern day munshids so long as their anasheeds meet the conditions as mentioned in the article above. That includes the following:

1. The words of the nasheed must be free of haraam and foolish words.

2. The nasheed should not be accompanied by musical instruments. No musical instrument is permitted except the duff for women on 'certain occasions' (NOT MEN).

3. It should be free of sound effects that imitate musical instruments, because what counts is what appears to be the case, and imitating haraam instruments is not permissible, especially when the bad effect is the same as that which happens with real instruments.

4. Listening to nasheed should not become a habit which takes up a person’s time and affects his duties and mustahabb actions, such as affecting his reading of Qur’aan and calling others to Allaah.

5. The performer of a nasheed should not be a woman performing in front of men, or a man with an enchanting appearance or voice performing in front of women.

6. One should avoid listening to performers with soft voices who move their bodies in rhythm, because there is fitnah in all of that and it is an imitation of the evildoers.

7. One should avoid the images that are put on the covers of their tapes, and more important than that, one should avoid the video clips that accompany their nasheeds, especially those which contain provocative movements and imitations of immoral singers.

8. The purpose of the nasheed should be the words, not the tune.
(See Islam Q&A Fatwa: 91142)

One must bare in mind these contions when it comes to anasheed and if they go against these conditions I sugest that it is better with out it, for this will be considered as sin and will be ruled amongst those whom listen to music. In the highly regarded book on Fiqh and fatawa, Fatawa Rahamiyiah, it states the punishment for those whom engage in these work and that it is absolutely prohibited (haraam). It is reported in the Musand of Ibn Abi Al-Dinar that the holy prophet (pbuh) said "In the last era a community from this Ummah will be transformed into monkeys and swines" The companions said "oh apostle of Allah! Will they not be believing in the Kalima 'there is no deity but Allah and Mohammed is his apostle'?" the prophet (saw) said "why not?" the companions asked "then what will be the reason for this punishment?" the prophet (saw) replied "they will adopt the profession of singing and music" he also said "It is a sin to hear music, it is a fault to sit at a musical fete and it is infidelity to derive pleasure from it"
(See Nisab, b.52,p 103, DM&S vol 5 p 306)

I leave you with the words of wisdom for Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) who said: How strange! What type of faith, light, insight, guidance and knowledge can be gained from listening to tuneful verses and music in which most of what is said is haraam and deserves the wrath and punishment of Allaah and His Messenger? … How can anyone who has the least amount of insight and faith in his heart draw near to Allaah and increase his faith by enjoying something which is hated by Him, and He detests the one who says it and the one who accepts it? (Madaarij al-Saalikeen, 1/485)

And Allah knows best...
