Q; The Psalms are music. Did Allah give David a haram thing? Because allegedly music is haram??
A; All-Praise is due to Allah,
There is no evidence in the Quran or Sunnah that claims the Zaboor (Psalms) is Music!!!
The Zaboor is one of the Books of Allah like the Quran, The Bible, and the Towrah. and it is a pillar of amongst the 6 pillars of Faith in Islam to believe in every book that has been sent from Allah to Mand kind. Allah's verse states, 'and to Dawud We gave the Zabur.' Ibn Kathir (may Allah have mercy on his soul) said in regards to the tafsir on this verse, 'The `Zaboor' (Psalms) is the name of the Book revealed to Prophet Dawud, peace be upon him.)
Imam Ahmad recorded that Abu Hurayrah said that the Messenger of Allah said,(Reciting was made easy for (Prophet) Dawud (David) in that he used to order that his animal be prepared for him to ride and in the meantime he would read the entire Qur'an. He used to eat only from what his hand made.) Al-Bukhari collected this Hadith.Ibn Kathir (may Allah have mercy on his soul) said, The Qur'an mentioned here is refers to the Zaboor.
Allah The Exalted said, 'And We have already written in the Zaboor [The book of Psalms] after the [previous] mention that the land [of Paradise] is inherited by My righteous servants..' (21:105)
It is clearly stated in words that the Zaboor is a Book revealed to Dawud (may peace and blessings be upon him) and not Music. and as for music and its prohibition please refer to Fatwa-
