The Ruling of Udhihyah (slaughtering)

Q;There is a situation. A friend of mine has bought an animal for Eid ul Adha for Rs. 71000 PKR. The animal is seriously sick now and has little chance of survival. What if the animal dies. My friend and his family is not at all in a situation to a buy another animal. The local Mufti told them that it will obligatory upon them to buy another animal no matter what, if this animal dies. Please respond soon, Assalam Alaoikum. A; All-Praise is due to Allah, The ruling of Adhiyah (slaughtering and animal on Eid) is Sunnah Muakidah (a confirmed Sunnah) and this is the more revised opinion from among the Scholars of Fiqh. Thus this is in accordance to the Sahih Sunnah that the Prophet (peace be upon him) slaughtered for those whom did not get the chance to slaughter. (Related by Ahmad; and Al-Albaani grades it as Sahih in his book of Iwaa: 1138 . Also in a Sahih Hadith reported by Abu Bakr and U'mar whom said that they would not slaughter on behalf of their families in the fear that people might think this is compulsory upon them, but yet we dislike those that leave it if they are able to do so. (Al-Irwaa Al-Ghalil: 1139; and Al-Albaani classes it as Sahih). So according to these Ahadith some of the Scholars ruled this as Sunnah, so in the case of your friend if he does not have the means to buy another animal to slaughter then he does not have to doso. Thus insha-Allah Allah will reward him with his intention as it has come in the Hadith of Sahih Muslim: 130, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Whomsoever has concern to do good and is unable to do so, verily he will be rewarded for its intention. Bear in mind that the animal even if it survives and remandes sick it is still not permissible to slaughter it because one of the conditions of the slaughtering is that the animal is in stabile good health. I ask Allah to accept your intention for following the Sunnah. And Allah knows best...
