Ruling on saying Jumah Mubaarak.

All-Praise is due to Allah,

There is a common word that has been used and spread through out the Muslim ummah in this day and age on the day of Jum'ah (Friday) and it is 'Jum'ah Mubaakak'. Muslims upon seeing one another greet each other with this so call greeting every Friday, but we ask all where did this expression come from and what basis does it have according to the Sharia'. Does it come form the purified Sunnah of the Prophet or is it another innovated practiced expression that has been passed through genrations as a so called Sunnah that people assume...

The Scholars have mentioned about this so called expression that people say and their ruling on it is as follows-

Shaykh Saalih ibn Fawzaan (may Allah preserve him) was asked: What is the ruling on sending text messages every Friday and ending with the phrase “Jumu‘ah mubaarak”?

He replied:

The early generation did not congratulate one another on Fridays, so we should not introduce anything that they did not do.

End quote from Ajwabat As’ilah Majallat al-Da‘wah al-Islamiyyah.

A similar fatwa was issued by Shaykh Sulaymaan al-Maajid (may Allah preserve him), when he said:

We do not think it is prescribed to exchange congratulations on Fridays, such as saying to one another, “Jumu‘ah mubaarak” and so on, because it comes under the heading of du‘aa’s and dhikrs, which must be based on a text (of the Qur’aan or Sunnah) because this is purely the matter of worship and if it were good, the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) would have done it before us. If anyone suggests that this is permissible, then that may imply that it is prescribed to say du‘aa’s and congratulate one another after having done the five daily prayers and other acts of worship, and du‘aa’ at these times was not done by the early generations.

With no doubt as Muslims we base our everyday lives in accordance with Allah And His Messenger, and Allah has prescribed for the believers to fear Him and to obey his commandments and to avoid anything that goes against His Sharia'. Allah The All-Mighty said (in a translation close to the meaning),"And We have revealed the Book to you which has clear explanations of everything, and a guidance, mercy and good news for those who submit." (16/89)

"And We have revealed to you the Book with the truth, verifying what is before it of the Book and a guardian over it, therefore judge between them by what Allah has revealed, and do not follow their low desires (to turn away) from the truth that has come to you;" (5/48)

"Whoever obeys the Messenger obeys Allah." (4/79)

"O you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the (Prophetic) Messenger and those in authority from amongst you, then if you have a dispute concerning any matter, refer it to Allah and the (Prophetic) Messenger if you believe in Allah and the Last Day (of Judgment). That is better and very good in the end." (4/59)

The verse above orders us that if we have a dispute to refer it to Allah and His Messenger, and we seem to be coming across allot of people that use this expression and get upset if one advises them that it is something not from the Sharia'.
But the reality lies in the statements of the Scholars which are mentioned above, and as for the expression it has no basis according to the Sharia' none of which Allah or His Messenger has mentioned in the Quran or Sunnah nor his companions nor any of the Pious Predecessors whom followed them.

So it is not permissible for any act or speech to be spread amongst us that is innovated for this is not acceptable, as it has evidently been narrated by Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, "If somebody innovates something which is not in harmony with the principles of our religion, that thing is rejected. Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 49, Number 861.
This Hadith is to be taken as a fundamental principle with any innovated matter in the religion. It is an evidence that is clearly understood all innovations are not acceptable in Islam and is rejected.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, "I enjoin you to fear Allah, and to hear and obey even if it be an Abyssinian slave, for those of you who live after me will see great disagreement. You must then follow my sunnah and that of the rightly-guided caliphs. Hold to it and stick fast to it. Avoid novelties, for every novelty is an innovation, and every innovation is an error." Abu Dawoud.

We ask Allah to guide us all to what is Authentically reviled and to adhere and obey it, and we send peace and salutations upon the Prophet and his Companions and the people that followed them and their guidance up until the day of Judgement.

And Allah knows best....
